Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has criticised the President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration for playing politics with his Kazi Mtaani project.

Speaking at ongoing inaugural East Africa Region Global Health Security Summit which kicked off on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Uhuru said the project was aimed at job creation to help hundreds of Kenyans.

Uhuru disagreed with Ruto’s decision to scrap off the project.

” Unlike what some people tried to indicate that this was a political agenda (Kazi mtaani), It was totally aimed at ensuring Kenyans who were unable to go to their places of work had an opportunity to earn a living and support their families,” Uhuru said.

Ruto terminiated the program on 25 October, 2022 a month after taking office.

The head of state explained that the Kazi Mtaani project started by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime had low income and limited opportunities for the youth compared to his Housing proposal, which would upscale the number of youths.

He then populised Affordable housing projects which he asked youth to seek jobs in construction sites.
