Police officers from Eldoret city had a rough time on Friday after striking teachers threatened to storm the local TSC director’s office.

The angry teachers had tried storming the TSC director’s office at Kiptagich plaza before they were stopped by the officers leading to the confrontations. Officers were forced to block the teachers from accessing the officers, a scenario that led into pull and push between the two groups.

“Huyu director ndio amesababisha hayo yote, tumekuja hapa kila siku….sisi ni wageni wake leo,” lamented one of the teachers.

This comes just a day after the same teachers stormed Uasin Gishu High School and ejected the teachers who were busy in class.

They forcibly removed their colleagues who were teaching during nationwide demonstrations that began on Monday. The protesting teachers had received information that some teachers were still conducting lessons despite being warned to refrain from doing so.

Tension escalated when the protesting teachers entered the school’s dining hall and ate food meant for their colleagues, leading to chaos. Students also left their classes to join the protests, accusing the teaching teachers of being traitors. Fearing for their safety, the targeted teachers fled the scene.

Speaking in Eldoret, the protesting teachers expressed their frustration, stating they could not protest in the streets while others “pretend to be good” by remaining in class. They emphasized the harsh economic conditions, saying, “Life is very hard, and we cannot work and go to bed hungry.”
