In 2008, when the program “Mother in Law” premiered on Citizen TV, it was a massive success. Every Sunday viewers couldn’t wait to tune in to the station and see what the characters were upto. For 12 years the program has been running with its interesting twists and turns.

The television series is set in a typical family setting in one of the modern homes in Kenya. It demonstrates the existence of a middle-class Kenyan family. The storyline depicts the actions of a mother-in-law towards her husband, sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. More importantly, the series has its eyes focused on the relationship between mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law.

The series depicts a typical middle class Kenyan family setting. The script revolves around the triad linkage between a mother on one side, and her daughters–in-law on the other, and how it impacts on other family members.

Charity Mwamba is the main character and the plot revolves on how she treats those around her, especially her workers, sons and daughter-in-laws. She is a strict mother who doesn’t tolerate nonsense and is always over-protective of her sons.

Shosh is a University of Nairobi graduate with a Bachelors of Arts degree and also holds a post graduate diploma.

Elizabeth Wanjiru separated from her Ugandan husband in the 80’s. The husband abandoned her in 1981 after 13 years of marriage. Her husband Shem Bageine, is the Ugandan Minister of State in East African Affairs.

Shosh began acting while still a young girl of Alliance Girls High school. She has a strong stage presence and her talent as an actress is well pronounced.

Both her father and mother are deceased. She was born in a family of 12 siblings. Unfortunately, ten of her siblings have passed away. The death of her siblings took a toll on the actress. In a period of about ten years, she had lost 10 of her siblings.

Elizabeth ‘Charity Mwamba’ Wanjiru started her career as a performer at Alliance Girls and became well-known due to her role as a mother-in-law. Charity, who is also retired from teaching.
