I was sitting with one of my friends eating overpriced fries and a smoothie at brunch in Garden city. I was listening to her go on and on about her ex-boyfriend’s Instagram.
“I saw him like this girl’s photos and dropped some thirsty comments on her feeds. I think he’s seeing her.”
She pulled out her phone to show me the history. I rolled my eyes and sipped on my smoothie. This went on for the duration of our meal.
While I was being hella judgemental, I realized that I’ve been here and done that.
But checking on him becomes problematic if it’s making you feel bad and somehow you can’t stop yourself from keeping tabs on his every move.
If you need help breaking your internet creeping habit, here are a few tips you might consider following.
Delete! Delete!
DELETE EVERYTHING. His emails, texts, unfriend him, unfollow. You do not want to get tempted to text them when you stumble on their texts while scrolling through your phone.
It will be harder, you have no idea, but come on how else are you supposed to get off that burning train?
Keep busy
Normally when I’m reminiscing about my ex, I get busy. I clean, have you experienced the magic in doing thorough cleaning? It’s therapeutic. Such thoughts come when you’re idle, but getting busy is the trick.
Ask your friends for tough Love
Tell your friends to remind you when you’re being too obsessive about your ex. If you’ve deleted him from your socials, then let them know that they are not allowed to fill you in on anything about him at all.
Cut off his friends
You shared a lot, friends, family and went to the same social events, try as much as possible to form your own circle. It’s time you let him go completely.
Sure, the connotation of stalking someone is a little dark but some people find closure in that. If you finally get that closure, let the matter rest and go your way Remember this is an opinion piece and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, that matters these days.
