Former Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri has urged President William Ruto not to allocate the Deputy President seat to Central Kenya if Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is impeached.

Ngunjiri’s remarks come amid growing political tensions surrounding Gachagua’s potential ouster, which he believes could have implications for the region.

Ngunjiri emphasized that if Gachagua is removed from office, the Deputy President position should not revert to Central Kenya.

“I want to urge the President that if he succeeds in removing Gachagua, he should not give that seat to Central Kenya again.” He said.

The former MP highlighted the need for peace in the region, particularly for the people of Murima, he argued that the political turmoil surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment has created instability, and a change in leadership could either exacerbate or alleviate these tensions.

Ngunjiri believes that relocating the Deputy President seat could contribute to a more peaceful political environment for the residents of Murima.

Ngunjiri’s comments also serve as a critique of the current political leadership in Central Kenya. He suggested that the region has not benefited from having a Deputy President from its ranks, implying that the political representation has not translated into tangible benefits for the constituents.

The call for a shift in the Deputy President seat raises questions about Ruto’s political strategy and the future of his administration.

If Ruto were to heed Ngunjiri’s advice, it could signal a significant change in how political power is distributed in Kenya, particularly in relation to Central Kenya’s influence.
