A heartbroken man by the name Harun Mwangi Maina who is a boda boda rider from Kariobangi North, has revealed about his devastating experience of being duped by a recruitment agency who gave him hopes for a job abroad.
Mwangi narrated to Tuko the heartbreaking incident on how he fell victim to fraudulent job scheme which left him financially down.
The 23-year-old says he had dreams of securing a stable job overseas to support his family. He decided to explore try this through a recruitment agency that advertised jobs in Canada. Because he had a valid driving license, he was attracted by the company’s promise of a good driving job abroad.
He revealed that he visited the agency’s offices, and everything seemed organized and real. He eagerly paid KSh.170,000 for necessary documentation, firmly believing that this investment would secure his future employment abroad. However, this dream soon turned into a nightmare.
He had been given a four-month waiting period but time lapsed and he knew there was a problem. He visited the company’s office to demand a refund for his money. But he was handed a five-year ban due to documentation problem which went against the agency’s promise in the beginning.
After the promised job offer crumbled, Mwangi found himself back at square one and burdened with thousands of shillings in loans that he struggles to repay.
Soon, it was revealed on social media about a KSh.600 million fake jobs scandal that gave him a shock. He said he was surprised to see the name Worthstart being accused of involvement in the scandal.
Although he had paid his money to a different company called Unlock, he discovered they are owned by the same person. But he has to accept this and has started to rebuild his life.
