Kenya Kwanza government is looking for ways through which they raise revenue without increasing government debts. Ruto has proposed tax increase and deductions that are shrinking employees’ salaries. An increase of NSSF contribution has already been effected. Initially employees were contributing a flat rate of two hundred shillings but inder Ruto’s government employees are contributing a three percent based on their basic salary.
Currently the Majority leader in the National Assembly honourable Kimani Ichumgwa has introduced Financial Bill 2023 that is seeking another three percent deduction based on basic salary for Housing project. Azimio leader Honourable Ledama Ole Kina has told Kenyans to blame their members of parliament if that bill is passed. According to him MPs are saying yes to everything that is beit brougt by the Executive headed by president William Ruto. Ruto’s government is also proposing a sixteen percent Value Added Tax(VAT) on petroleum and diesel.
“Don’t blame (President) William Ruto for high taxes blame your members of parliament! When the fuel tax goes to 16% blame your MPs. When civil servants are taxed 3% for housing blame your MPs. They are the ones who are gullible. Instead of saying no they say yes to everything that Ruto wants!” Ledama stated.
