John Githui Kamau popularly known as Ras from a role he played on Citizen TV local show called Mother-in-law revealed the problems that actors and actresses have been facing in the film industry.

Speaking in an interview on Plug TV, Ras alleged that most talented artists give up on acting because of demands they are expected to meet before they are awarded a role.

He alleged that there is a lot of sexual exploitation especially on female artists. That some directors demand for ladies to offer their bodies before they are accepted into a show and when they refuse they get nothing.

Ras went further to reveal that male actors on the other hand suffer from bribery because directors ask for money before they given them a role to act. That sometimes before a man is accepted in a show he has to strike a deal with the director to be giving him half the money he is paid as salary.

“I have not encountered that but there are people who go through it especially women. Most of them gave up acting both in theatre and film because of sexual exploitation. Some directors usually ask female artists to exchange their bodies with an acting role. For men directors usually ask for money. If you don’t have the money the role is given to someone else who has it. In some occasions on TV shows a director forces and actor to give him half of the money that he will earn,” Ras said.

Watch him narrate this from minute 11:40 on this video.

The celebrated actor went further to narrate that most artists on TV shows are underpaid. That fans may think that they are rich but most of them are broke with no cars. According to him, actors are supposed to be paid more money than news anchors because of the amount of work that they do. He called upon the government to consider coming up with rights to protect them.
