On 1st October 2024, President William Ruto launched launched a climate-related initiative dubbed “Climate WorkX” whose main work is to conserve the environment while the same time tackling the employment crisis among the youths.
The initiative which kicked off it’s work in Nairobi, the Capital City of Kenya is seen to be registering a tremendous progress as witnessed by the major transformation being witnessed at the Nairobi River. Prior the start of the cleaning activity, the river which runs in majority of the slums in the city had become heavily polluted with uncontrolled dumpings and pollution’s by industries.
So far, the Climate WorX team have managed to change the landscape of Nairobi River and it’s neighbourhoods with various informal settlement within the city now turning clean and environmentally friendly. Judging the shared photos showing flow of the River in Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Mathare, and Starehe, the River is seen to be taking a new shape and with the continued efforts by WorX initiative , the river will regain it’s initial look.
Climate WorX Initiative, is a replacement of the Uhuru’s Kazi Mtaani Initiative which was ended by President William Ruto after his clinch to power.
The plans to extend the Climate WorX initiative to all counties in the country is also said to be still ongoing.
