Universal Catholic Church
After Bishop Peter Njogu installed three new priests this spring, the Renewed Universal Catholic Church in Nyeri, in central Kenya, heard joyful ululations.
More than 15 priests who had previously been celibate have wed in the Reformed Universal Catholic Church. The church is led by priests who have left the Catholic Church, and it has dioceses spread out over Kenya.
All three of the new priests are married, just like Njogu, the founder of the Renewed Church and a former Roman Catholic priest.
The wedding of Catholic Father Titus Kimathi of Nkubu parish in Meru County and his longtime girlfriend, Rhoda Wanja, was witnessed by Nyeri locals in April 2013, and it was a unique spectacle.
