At the time Nakuru City experienced runaway insecurity in the run up to the 2022 general election, security bosses at Jogoo House burnt midnight oil in a bid to address the issue.
Afterwards, a deliberation was made on how to address the menace. And without wasting time, Nakuru got a new county police commander.
It was Peter Mwanzo, the no-nonsense crime buster who was tasked with restoring order in the county after being appointed as the new police chief.
At the time of his appointment as the new Nakuru County Police Commander, Mwanzo served as Kasarani Sub-County Police chief.
It was while in Kasarani that he made a name for himself as one of the most lethal cops in tracking criminals.
Within weeks of his posting to Nakuru, crime rate went down. It was a new dawn of hope for the country’s fourth city.
But a few months later, the renowned crime buster found himself in hot soup amid claims of human rights abuses.
In March 2023, just nine months after his appointment as Nakuru County police chief, Mwanzo was fired from the position even as the tough talking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua vowed to punish him.
