The family of late Captain Hillary Litali says they first learnt of his demise on social media.Speaking to TV47 from his father’s home in Kakamega, family spokesperson Rodgers Wahisi revealed he was the first to receive the tragic news.Captain Hillary Litali’s wife followed up on the matter and was informed by KDF about her husband’s untimely demise.
His mother, who is based in Nakuru, was devastated as she recounted all the plans laid out by the soldier for the family.
She revealed that they had last met as they were ready for planting season at the beginning of this month. As the eldest child, Hillary was also constructing a family home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia.
Hillary went to the halfway finished construction site with his mother at their most recent meeting.
Hillary attended Nakuru Muslim Primary School, where he received a 397 grade. Later, he relocated to Sacho to attend Emining High School, where he received a B+ on his KCSE tests.
In 2013, he was one of 140 applicants—out of over a thousand—shortlisted to become cadets in the KDF. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in 2017 after finishing his training, and he became a captain in 2020.
He collaborated with Robert Kibochi, the outgoing Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), from 2021 to 2023.
He went back to training in 2024 and was supposed to become a Major. After finishing in March, he was called back to CDF Ogolla’s office, where he remained until his death.
Captain Litali departs with a daughter and his wife, whom he wed in 2023.
