Mzee Mwamba, whose real name is Peter Muriithi Maina, has been a prominent figure in Kenyan entertainment, famously known for his role as the patriarch in the popular TV drama “Mother-in-Law.” Born in Ziwani, Nairobi, 68 years ago, Mwamba began his acting journey in 1964 while still in primary school.
His early education took him to Morrison School in Bahati and later to Dagoretti High School. Although he started acting seriously in the 1980s, his early theater roles in productions like “Mama Benga,” “Naomi,” and “Pambazuka” laid the foundation for his future success.
Mwamba’s big break came in 2008 when he joined the cast of “Mother-in-Law,” a role that brought him widespread acclaim and made him a household name. His remarkable performance earned him nominations for the Kalasha Awards in 2009 and 2010.
Despite his fame, Mwamba has faced significant challenges. One of his major concerns is the public’s tendency to confuse his on-screen persona with his real life, often leading to unrealistic expectations about his lifestyle.
Additionally, Mwamba has criticized the lack of industry standards regarding actor salaries and contracts. He has highlighted issues such as inconsistent pay and the absence of formal contracts, which complicates securing financial loans. Outside of acting, Mwamba manages a business that specializes in aluminum doors, windows, and aquariums.
