For two years, he was one of the top brains technically running Kenya’s economy. As the National Assembly chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, Kiharu MP Samson Ndindi Nyoro wielded immense influence and power.

As one of President William Ruto’s blue- eyed boys in the run up to the 2022 general election, Nyoro was one of those shortlisted for the running mate position.

But as fate would have it, the then Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was picked. And Nyoro had to wait for his time to shine.

And that time arrived a few months later, when President Ruto took over the reigns of power from Uhuru Kenyatta.

Though he was tipped to be appointed to the cabinet, Dr Ruto opted to utilize Nyoro’s brain in the crucial and powerful budget and appropriations commitee of the National Assembly.

With a solid economic background acquired after chewing books at Kenyatta University for four years, Nyoro was the right man for the job.

But the last few months have not been kind to Nyoro. The fall of Gachagua as Deputy President proved to be the start of his troubles.

During the heated debate on the floor of the House on the day Gachagua was impeached, Nyoro was conspicuously absent. And his vote was not there either.

From there, many of Ruto’s allies believed that Nyoro was a fence sitter. And immediately, his days became numbered.

And now, he has been ousted as the chairperson of the powerful committee with allies of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga tipped to take over his position as the two leaders cement their political cooperation.
