ttorney-General Justin Muturi has once again gone against the Kenya Kwanza government in the controversial housing levy that Kenyans have been subjected to since last year.

Mr Muturi has issued a stern warning to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) urging them to refrain from any attempts to collect the controversial affordable housing levy.

This caution comes in the wake of a recent Court of Appeal ruling on January 26, 2024, declaring the levy illegal.

The Affordable Housing Levy, which was introduced as part of the government’s efforts to finance its affordable housing agenda, has been a subject of intense debate and legal scrutiny. The Court of Appeal’s Jan 26 ruling added significant weight to the arguments against its legality.

The AG on Feb 8th had also distanced himself from William Ruto’s housing project warning it could fail for MPs considering the Affordable Housing Bill of 2023 without involving the Senate.

President William Ruto for the longest time has promised to go against all odds and make the project a success even despite the opposition.
