The ministry of education has faced several setbacks since Ezekiel Machogu took the responsibility of being the cabinet secretary. A number of the challenges faced is KCPE irregularities and the delayed process of releasing examination.
After the release and learners getting schools they have been selected, there is a new headache that has risen and is giving parents sleepless nights. This challenge is related to selection of students.
From the concerns raised from parents and observations made by myself, a number of students have been selected to join schools which are very far from their home.
The distance from home to school is not the issue but those schools are day schools. These day schools are located in place where the students can not travel every morning and evening to school and from school respectively.
An example that I witnessed myself is a student being called to a day school in Thika in Kiambu county when that students is residing in Nairobi county. How is it possible for that student to get to school every day and go back home? Or are parents supposed to relocate to near the location of the school?
