Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday cracked jokes dismissing What Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng had said earlier during his speech in Homa Bay County.
While recognizing the leaders who had attended the Home Coming and Thanks Giving service of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Ochieng referred to President William Ruto, DP Gachagua and PS Omollo with ‘Dr’ salutations.
In his remarks, Gachagua said he was not yet a ‘Dr’ adding that Nyanza Region is known for English language prowess, and he was keen not to make mistakes and chose to make his remarks in ‘Swahili.’
“Honorable Ochieng has referred to me as a ‘Dr,’ and since you all know that I am a truthful man, I want to say the truth that I am not a ‘Dr.’ Ochieng thinks because I sat close to Dr Ruto and Dr Omollo, I am also a ‘Dr,’ I am below that.”
“Even though I am not that learned, I know a few things. If you were to come to this side of the country and you are not fluent with English, speak Swahili,” said Gachagua attracting laughter from the audience.
In his remarks, Gachagua termed PS Omollo as a humble and hardworking leader, saying President Ruto made the right choice by settling on Omollo to take over from the former PS Karanja Kibicho.
“Omollo has brought sobriety, dignity and honour to the office of PS Interior. His predecessor was full of abuse, arrogance, skimmed bad things for leaders and Kenyans.”
“That office brought fear to Kenyans, but in seven months, Dr Omollo has turned that office upside down, becoming an office of hope and development,” added Gachagua.
Most of the leaders who spoke heaped praised at Dr Omollo, with his boss, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki saying he is up to the task.
