Family, Friends and Members of the Fourth Estate today gathered at Holy Family Basilica to pay tribute to one of their own, Rita Tinina.
Speaking at the sad event, Loise Muna, one of Rita Tinina’s friends was at one point overwhelmed by emotions while recalling what Rita instructed them to do if one of them passes on.
According to Loise Muna they were a group of friends consisting of Rita, Dorcas Njeri, Judy, Jane and herself.
The group met 20 years ago and their friendship developed into a bond of sisterhood which blossomed to include their families. The friends revealed that they did a number of things together and that Rita denounced drama, lies and encouraged openness, increased attention to despair and which battles to undertake.
Loise disclosed that Rita had a nickname for each of them and even came up with a name for the group. She came up with the word “strong pillars” which according to her described what the group stood for.
Rita also introduced ‘Ball bearer’ as the name of the group expecting that if one of them dies the rest will bear the burden of walking with her to her final resting place.
“We met Rita right about 20 years ago. Our bond formed to pure sisterhood love. Over the years this sisterhood blossomed to include our families. As we all know RT had to find a name for the four of us. According to her, she was looking for a word that would be a beacon of what we stood for.”
“She came up with ‘Strong Pillars’ which meant we should be strong through thick and thin and then introduced ‘Ball Bearers’ with the notion that when one of us passes on, we should bear a burden of riding or walking with them to the final resting place. Unfortunately we never expected the ball bearer part to be executed anytime but here we are” Loise said with a lot of difficulty.
The news of Rita Tinina’s death came as devastating news to the members of the fourth estate. She died of Pneumonia. We as Opera Fraternity join Kenyans in mourning Rita Tinina. May her soul Rest in Eternal Peace!
