Women teachers now want Kenya Women Teachers Association (Kewota) CEO Benta Opande probed for deducting female teachers millions of shillings monthly illegally.

Speaking in a Nairobi hotel a group of teachers led by Priscilla Atieno said it’s been five years now where Kewota has deducted ksh 200 from their payslip monthly without their approval.

“We are coming together as thousands of female teachers who are currently being deducted money by the dubious Kewota. The money is running into millions of shillings and despite our several attempts to write to the TSC to remove our names from Kewota’s database”, said Atieno.

Another teacher who sought anonymity said she has written more than five letters to the TSC seeking to be removed from the unscrupulous Kewota database, but to no avail. “I have written more than five letters to TSC for the last three years but no one has acted on my plight. Am asking TSC boss madam Nancy Macharia to atleast act on the letters that our women teachers have written asking to be removed from KEWOTA’s database” She noted.

The teachers also noted that it’s sad to note that the illegal deductions are being used by the Kewota CEO Benta Opande to enrich herself.

“We have followed closely how Opande has enriched herself with more than five cars, posh hotel in Kitengela and the newly constructed school in Nyanza”, noted a concerned teacher

The move comes only few days after Taita Taveta Senator Johnes Mwaruma petitioned Senate over abolishing of the monthly deductions from female teachers salaries forwarded to the Kenya Women Teachers Association that has been in effect for five years.
