Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has outlined three key conditions that Azimio leader Raila Odinga must fulfill for the Kenya Kwanza administration to endorse his candidacy for the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

The Senator stated that if these conditions are met, Raila will receive the full support of the Kenya Kwanza brigade.

According to Senator Cherargei, Raila should firstly apologize to Kenyans for the events following the 2023 demonstrations. He emphasized the importance of expressing remorse for the consequences, including loss of lives, destruction of public property, and the negative impact on the country’s economy.

“Secondly, he needs to show loyalty to the government of President William Ruto, and Gachagua should confirm his endorsement. Because the AU position will be sought by the Kenyan government, not ODM,” he added.

Cherargei further emphasized that Raila must pledge his allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza administration and maintain this loyalty to garner support for his candidacy.

He made these remarks during a school fundraiser in Nandi County on Saturday.

These statements came shortly after Defense CS Aden Duale declared the government’s full endorsement of Raila’s bid for the AUC position.

“We have collectively decided to support our fellow Kenyan, Raila, who is exceptionally qualified for the job. President William Ruto is a visionary leader, and he will actively lead the charge to ensure Raila secures the position,” stated the CS on Friday.

Earlier this month, Raila announced his bid for the position of AUC chair, expressing his readiness to serve. He highlighted his prior experience as the AU High Representative for Infrastructure, indicating his preparedness for the role.

“I am ready to accept this challenge and offer myself for service. I have reached out to my friend, Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, to continue advocating on my behalf and engage with other stakeholders,” he stated at the time.
