On Friday, the Kenyan court is set to make a significant ruling regarding the impeachment case of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The court will decide whether to refer the case to Chief Justice Martha Koome for empanelment, as Gachagua seeks to have the matter heard by a bench of judges as reported by The Standard Digital.

Gachagua was removed from office by the National Assembly for his alleged embezzlements, rebellion against his president and confirmation of the government plans.

The motion was moved with 281 MPs voting in support of it which is way beyond the two-third majority which must be met for impeachment.

After the National Assembly vote, the case will be forwarded to the Senate in which Gachagua will be allowed to stand for himself in the accusations.

Should the Senate affirm the impeachment, Gachagua would be the first deputy president in Kenya to be ejected from this office via the law passed under the Kenyan 2010 constitution.

The legal team representing Gachagua has urged the court to have thecase heard and determined by more than one judge.

This action is viewed as a ploy to enhance efficiency in the assessment the legal aspects that overarch the impeachment process.

Gachagua has earlier sought to have the impeachment process stopped stating that the accusations made against him are a political move and there is no sufficient evidence.

Friday’s judgment by the court will be pivotal in deciding the future of Gachagua’s impeachment process. If the case is taken to Chief Justice Koome for empanelment it may cause a more comprehensive analysis of the impeachment motion and evidences laid against Gachagua.
