Prudence Shalimba, a 13-year-old from Ileho Village in Shinyalu constituency, Kakamega county, experienced elation as the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) revised her KCPE marks from 358 to 409.

The unexpected dip in her initial score left Prudence devastated, but her family’s determination and swift action brought about a correction that catapulted her to the top of her class.

Prudence, a former student of Mukango Hope Academy, had consistently excelled in her studies, never scoring below 400 marks overall.

Her shock at receiving a score of 358 turned into relief when, after her parents sought a review, she was presented with revised results while in church. The new score not only restored her confidence but also secured her the top position in her class.

The ordeal began when Prudence’s parents, upon receiving the initial results, were alarmed by the discrepancy, particularly in Kiswahili, her favorite subject.

Ms. Gladys Shalimba, Prudence’s mother, expressed concern over the accuracy of the released results, emphasizing her daughter’s consistent academic performance.

The family’s decision to seek a review proved successful, highlighting the importance of thoroughness in the examination result release process.

Prudence, now eyeing admission to Kenya High, aspires to become a surgeon. The incident underscores the need for vigilance in result verification to avoid unnecessary distress among students and parents.

Japheth Aliata, the Director of Mukango Hope Academy, echoed these sentiments, calling on the Ministry of Education and Knec to exercise caution and precision in the result release process.

The academy had planned to allocate funds for remarking, emphasizing the potential consequences of inaccuracies in the examination results.

As Prudence and her family now plan a celebration to acknowledge the revised success, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of diligence and accuracy in educational assessments, ensuring that every student’s achievements are justly recognized.
