In any stage performance, the audience plays a very vital role towards it success.Their importance may not be directly noted but it’s very crucial. If one can compare a performance done without an audience with one done in the presence of an audience, they will notice that there is a very big difference between the two. This means that the audience plays a role almost equal to that of the audience. It doesn’t necessarily matter whether the audience is active or passive, their presence is very important. Some of their importances are:

  1. They actively contribute towards the liveliness of the play:The audience takes active part towards making a play active. They do this by reacting to different jokes ie laughing where necessary, nodding where necessary or even crying in an emotional scene.Without this reaction, the actor would feel alone and even sometimes they may feel like whatever they are performing is not important.
  2. They sometimes are involved in the play:In some performances, actors include the audience to become supporting characters on stage. They gives them easier characters which they can deliver easily and without straining. This makes the larger audience feel connected to what is happening on stage and they feel as part of that particular performance.
  3. The audience offers accompaniment to the performing actors: Sometimes, the actors feel nervous being on stage. They at times forget their lines, stage directions or even loose character. However, when one have an audience cheering up on him, clapping to him, following his body language and laughing at his jokes, they feel like they have already achieved and they know that they are delivering. This gives them the morale to continue performing even better.
