For the first time since Kenyans successfully managed to occupy parliament on Tuesday, the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Masika Wetangula has broken silence.

I’m his statement, he has condemned the forceful occupation of parliament twerking it as the worst test of the Kenyan democracy in the history of the country.

“Violence, disrespect and wanton destruction of property and blatant attack on public institutions shall not be condoned.”the speaker noted.

“The Speaker of the National Assembly @HonWetangula has issued a communication regarding the unfortunate and unprecedented events of Tuesday, 25th June 2024.”National Assembly reported on Wednesday morning through their official social media accounts.

He also said that he is not a stranger to the conversations that have been going on in this country with regards to the Finance Bill and the general state of the economy of the Nation, and hence he lauds the youth of this nation for taking the lead in this discourse and what a privilege to be alive at such a time as this to behold our children engage in and shape the course of our nation.

The youth, demonstrating against the Finance Bill 2024, managed to breach security and gain entry into the bicameral house, leading to chaotic and unprecedented scenes.

At least four protesters were shot dead as police struggled to disperse rioters who had stormed Parliament following the passage of the controversial Finance Bill.
