The recent agreement between President Ruto and Raila Odinga was reportedly driven by the need to prevent Raila from rekindling ties with his former Azimio la Umoja One Kenya allies. These allies had been pressuring him to join efforts against the Kenya Kwanza administration. Sources indicate that even former President Uhuru Kenyatta had reached out to Raila, prompting Rutoās team to act swiftly and finalize the deal to keep him from being swayed.
Additionally, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ruto and Raila is seen as a strategic move ahead of an anticipated Cabinet reshuffle. Reports suggest that the list of new Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries was finalized during their meeting in Mombasa, with some of Railaās allies expected to be included.
Meanwhile, Raila has been touring the country to consult with his supporters, assuring them that his decisions will prioritize national interests. His alignment with Ruto has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a political strategy while others see it as a betrayal.
