A major report by Nation has made serious allegations regarding the events leading up to the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The paper claims that Gachagua’s room at the Acacia Hotel in Kisumu was bugged, and his private conversation with a Rift Valley MP, who had visited him, was secretly recorded.

This recorded conversation is said to have played a key role in the collapse of the relationship between President William Ruto and his deputy.

According to the report, once President Ruto listened to the recorded conversation, he decided to cut off ties with Gachagua entirely. The Nation claims that the contents of the recording were significant enough for the President to lose trust in his deputy, which eventually led to his impeachment.

In the days leading up to the impeachment, some members of the clergy reportedly visited State House to mediate between Ruto and Gachagua.

The aim of the clergy’s visit was to seek a truce between the two top leaders, hoping to prevent the political turmoil surrounding the impeachment. However, during this meeting, President Ruto allegedly played the recording of Gachagua’s conversation to the clergy members, further justifying his decision to support the impeachment process.

Meanwhile, On Sunday, Rigathi Gachagua while addressing the media confirmed that police agents broke into his room during one of the Kisumu tours. The embattled Deputy President said that the agents had planned to kill him through food poisoning but they were able to learn of the scheme.

“I don’t feel safe. On August 30, undercover cover police agents in Kisumu entered my room and one of them tried to poison my food but we detected it and we were able to escape. I was supposed to be killed through poisoning,” claimed Gachagua.
