A community is grieving after the tragic death of 17-year-old Lyton Nansubuga, a student at Mukono High School.

She was killed just hours before her birthday celebration, which was set for September 1. Nansubuga was hit by a vehicle while returning home from a photoshoot planned to celebrate her special day.

The accident occurred at Ewantoni stage as she excitedly made her way home. Friends and family shared that she had been looking forward to her birthday and had posted about her excitement on social media.

Rita Kagwa, a local resident, wrote on Facebook, “Little did she know that fate could turn out otherwise,” highlighting the shocking nature of her untimely death.

During her burial service, family and friends gathered to pay their respects in a deeply emotional ceremony. In a touching moment, the mourners paused the service to sing “Happy Birthday” in honor of Lyton.

Her love for Arsenal football club was also remembered, showcasing her youthful spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.

Videos from the service, shared on TikTok, showed the heartfelt tribute, with many attendees visibly moved by the sad circumstances of her passing. People expressed their sorrow online, with one user saying, “I can’t hold my tears, happy birthday Lyton, rest in peace.” Another wrote, “This is so sad; she was born on September 1 and passed away just hours before her birthday.”

Lyton’s sudden death has left her family and friends in shock. Samuel Nansubuga, her uncle, shared the family’s deep sadness: “We never expected this. She was full of life and had so much ahead of her.” The community is coming together to support her family during this difficult time.

Following her death, many are calling for better road safety measures to protect pedestrians, especially young people. This tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers on the roads and the need for drivers to be cautious.
