During Daddy Owen’s album launch this past week, Mpasho caught up with his younger brother, Slejj, who is also a musician.
One of the questions we put to the singer was how he and his family had dealt with Daddy Owen’s recent personal issues?
“To be honest we prayed for him. You know if you aren’t with someone in that situation they can do anything. So we have been there talking to him and keeping him busy at other things. That’s one of the reasons we encouraged him to do an album.”
When Owen was going through what he was going through, was there a time that they were concerned he wouldn’t make it?
“I know that he is strong. One thing that I know about Owen is that he is stronger than all of us in the family. You see handling such a thing you need to be strong.”
A few years ago Slejj lost his dad, what has he been doing to keep his legacy going? “You know music was my father’s first career as he used to sell tapes in Kakamega and wherever. He used to tell us the way music was a good thing and how if he had had an opportunity like ours he would do it, so being in the industry is part of keeping his legacy alive.”
We cheekily asked whether he was his mom’s favourite child compared to Rufftone and Daddy Owen? “It’s the truth (Conceding while laughing). I am the last born. You know I didn’t choose where I would be born in the line.”
Was Slejj dating at the moment? “At the moment I am not dating anyone. I am trying to focus on my music,” he responded.
