Nairobi Business Community has issued a controversial notice ahead of tomorrow’s protests.

According to the notice which has elicited mixed reactions business men have been urged to take a number of precautionary measures tomorrow.

The Business Community stated that they were in support of the initial Gen Z protests as it advocated for a conducive business environment for them until it turned against them when looters took advantage and started robbing them.

Following that the Business Community have mobilized Business men to protect their business especially after police were overpowered in the previous protests.

“The Police were overpowered in many areas which exposed businesses to be at the mercies of goons. The court has since issued an order to restrain police from using teargas or weapons to contain rogue protesters. This makes police powerless which will expose our business to more looting” Reads Nairobi Business Community Statement in part.

The Business Community issued a number of Precautionary Measures that members should consider during protests.

They urged members to close their shops and reinforce doors with metal blades in cases of glass walls. Members have also been urged to form groups with neighbouring members to share intelligence and information as well as installation of CCTVs at their shops.

While some of the precautionary measures sound genuine, others have elicited concern among Kenyans as it implies taking law into their own hands.

For instance the Business Community urged members to arm themselves with machetes and jembes. They also urged their members to patrol streets and thwart looters before they regroup.

Such is likely to ignite a showdown between looters and business men or even lead to casualties during the protests.
