Head of state President William Ruto’s star continue to shine as foreign president has now turned to him for help to deal with rebels.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has now turned to the head of state President William Ruto to help him mediate talks with the non-signatories of the 2018 peace agreement ahead of the South Sudan General Elections in 2024.

The last meeting between the Kiir led administration and the rebels ended in deadlock. It happened in March of this year in Rome, Italy.

The Kiir government had proposed that the discussions focus on security sector reforms, political and governance, economic and social issues, and justice, while the non-signatory group proposed the conduct of an inclusive round table discussion.

Kiir now counts on the head of state President William Ruto to help resolve the stalemate. Speaking today, South Sudan Minister said that they are hoping Ruto will convene meeting with the rebels soon. Kiir want the rebels to take part in the next general elections.

“The president of the republic, His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, after long consultations with some individuals, I think has accepted and agreed to ask his brother and his colleague and our neighbour, His Excellency William Ruto to host and mediate peace between the government of South Sudan and the holdout group called SOMMA in Nairobi,” said Bakosoro.
