The world was left in shock last week as Kevin Kangā€™ethe, a wanted fugitive awaiting extradition to the United States for murder charges, successfully escaped from Muthaiga Police Station. The audacious nature of his escape prompted swift action, leading to the apprehension of the police officers responsible for his custody.

Surprisingly, it was later disclosed that Kangā€™ethe had casually walked out of the police station without any hindrance, even boarding a matatu along Thika Road. Investigations into the incident unveiled a disturbing plot meticulously organized by Kangā€™ethe, with assistance from his close relative, his brother, and complicit law enforcement personnel.

Investigative journalist Franklin Wallah of K24 TV revealed that a substantial sum of Ksh 2 million had been allocated to secure Kangā€™etheā€™s freedom. This sizable amount, reportedly brought in by a relative from neighboring Tanzania, highlights the extent to which Kangā€™ethe and his associates were willing to go to avoid facing justice.

Shockingly, allegations emerged of senior police officers participating in facilitating this illicit deal, casting a shadow of corruption over the law enforcement agency. Initial reports suggested that a significant portion of the agreed sum had already been paid in dollars to ensure Kangā€™etheā€™s successful escape.

However, law enforcement authorities intervened before the full payment could be made, thwarting the fugitiveā€™s plans and leading to his subsequent re-arrest. Following Kangā€™etheā€™s re-arrest, some members of his support network expressed relief, stating that being on the run had exposed them to the risk of arrest or harassment by authorities.

Close family members revealed that they had been living in fear, avoiding unknown calls, and even suspected relatives who might have been in contact with Kevin. One family member, requesting anonymity, acknowledged the danger posed by Kangā€™etheā€™s presence in the community.

Since Kevin and his brother had relocated from their Thogotho home to a farm in the Ngong area, the family anticipated that he could be anywhere he felt safer. Despite their fears, some family members reportedly conveyed a message to Kangā€™ethe, urging him to surrender to authorities.
