Chaos erupted at the Bomas of Kenya during a public participation forum on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Tensions flared as participants voiced their frustrations, leading to disruptions in the proceedings. The meeting which was intended to allow citizens to express their views quickly spiraled out of control with physical confrontations and verbal exchanges taking over.
Amid the confusion, activist Morara Kebaso became the target of an attack when chairs were thrown at him by a group of goons. According to a viral video which is circulating online, Beatrice Elachi, former Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, encouraged the violence by shouting “Piga,” meaning “beat.”
Her remarks repeatedly fueled the chaos with goons throwing chairs, leading to further physical assaults on Kebaso who was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
Kenyans have expressed outrage at Elachi’s actions, with many taking to social media to condemn her behavior. The backlash against Elachi highlights the deep discontent with leaders who incite violence as Kenyans continue to express their frustration with the political tensions surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment.
Comments ranged from accusations of incitement to disappointment in her as a leader. Several users criticized her for encouraging violence, with one stating, “Shame on you, you don’t deserve to be a leader.”
Others questioned her role as a mother, with one commenter asking, “Aren’t you a mother?” The public sentiment was overwhelmingly negative, with some individuals going as far as calling her a “disgrace to women” for her involvement in the incident. Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans who trolled her.
