Senior Police Superintendent Philip Mwania, the Limuru sub-county police commander, tragically lost his life in a fatal road accident.

The accident occurred along the Kitui – Mutomo road, near the River Nzeeu bridge, just as Mwania was on his way home to celebrate Christmas with his family in Nzambani sub-county, Kitui.

The accident took place at around 11:30 PM when Mwania’s Toyota Fielder collided head-on with a Mitsubishi FH lorry.

According to police reports, Mwania was traveling alone when his car swerved into the opposite lane, where it struck the oncoming lorry.

The impact of the crash was severe, and Mwania died instantly at the scene. The front of his vehicle was heavily damaged, and the scene was described as gruesome by eyewitnesses.

This tragic accident follows a similar incident just a day earlier. On December 7, two people lost their lives in a road collision between a truck and a saloon car at Kahoya trading center, along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The repeated accidents in the region have raised serious concerns about road safety, especially during the busy festive season.

Residents of the area have called on the government and the Ministry of Roads and Transport to take action by improving road safety measures.

They have requested the installation of speed bumps and road signs to help reduce accidents along the Kitui – Mutomo road, which has become a dangerous stretch.

Local leaders and community members are urging the authorities to address the issue and ensure that the road is safer for travelers.

Following the accident, Mwania’s body was taken to Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Police have also reminded road users to exercise extra caution, particularly during the rainy season, to avoid accidents that can result in the loss of more lives.
