After five months of acting leadership, Senator Oburu Odinga has officially been confirmed as the leader of the ODM, following a decisive vote at party’s Special Delegates Conference on Friday, at Jamhuri Grounds. The gathering brought together delegates from across Kenya to endorse leadership decisions and map out the party’s strategic direction.
With the proposer and seconder now confirmed, I will proceed to pose the question. Those in favor, please say ‘Aye’ and those against, say ‘No.’
The ‘Ayes’ have it. Suna East MP Junet Mohamed announced, ‘Senator Oburu Odinga is now the leader of the ODM party,’ marking his official transition from acting leader to full leader.
During his time as acting leader, Oburu Odinga successfully guided the party through necessary internal changes, ensuring stability and unity during a crucial period.
Delegates expressed assurance in his capability to lead ODM towards greater cohesiveness and effectiveness.
In addition to Oburu’s confirmation, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad and Kisii Governor Simba Arati were appointed as deputy party leaders, demonstrating an inclusive approach to leadership. However, controversy arose when Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was unable to secure the third deputy position due to the lack of a proposer and seconder for his nomination.
Junet clarified, ‘Without a proposer and seconder for Godfrey Osotsi, he cannot be appointed as deputy leader.’
This session highlighted ODM’s continued efforts to unify leadership and handle internal conflicts as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
With Oburu Odinga firmly in charge, the party seems poised to strengthen its strategy, even though discussions regarding deputy positions indicate ongoing internal debates.
