Senator Ledama Olekina has criticized government’s decision to deploy at least 1000 police to the crime-torn Haiti. In a statement through his Twitter page, Narok senator alleged that he has in the past two weeks received complaints from hundreds of police officers lamenting the dire economic state they are trapped in.
Olekina’s reproof came moments after president Ruto defended the decision to send the troops to help in restoring peace and order in Haiti.
Addressing UN security agencies and other stakeholders on Kenya’s resolution and devotion to stand with Haitian people, Ruto echoed that Kenya has from time to time stood with needy neighbors and friends in uphelding justice and maintaining order in the society.
Senator Ledama further highlighted the plight of Kenyan officers saying from their confessions, it has been hard for them to obtain funds meant for their medical covers.
The outspoken law maker called the government to first ensure its officers are well taken care of before volunteering to vacuum other people’s floor.
Haiti deployment has stirred a public furore with a section of Kenyans and leaders accusing the government of double standards and hypocrisy, those of this opinion argue that Kenya should first solve the North Rift banditry challenge and Alshabab menace before embarking in international security missions.
