Inooro TV actress Charity Wacera alias Katerina has appealed for help as she says depression is slowly killing her.
The mother of two in an interview with Kenya Diaspora Media says she hit a rough patch that led to her getting depressed.
“After form four I knew I wanted to get into the entertainment industry and a friend connected me to travelling theatre. In 2015 I had depression but I hid it, people assume people on TV are perfect.
Depression started in primary school because I was a big child, kids never wanted me to join them in games.
I started keeping to myself. I tried killing myself once by taking 16 piritons. I developed ulcers in class 6. In form 1 I was wearing waist 45, I was a smart kid though.”

Charity added, “In secondary school, the bullying continued, I felt ugly and like I was not good enough. The teachers never understood they assumed I had a boyfriend yet I did not.
In secondary school, I developed high blood pressure. I was taken to the hospital and was given meds including those for ulcers and painkiller’s as my leg was hurting. The pills were 42 and I decided to kill myself. I had also stopped eating because everyone was always talking about me.
I had even developed bulimia. I took all the 42 tablets. I had given up and did not want to be saved. I was taken to the hospital after collapsing in class. They tried all means but everything failed because I was determined to die.
They had to call in another doctor who finally used a different method to induce vomiting. In secondary school, I had also started urinating on the bed. I was given one month to go and see a psychiatrist. I always feel like running away from everybody who knows me.
Charity is still battling depression and hopes she will get the help she needs to recover not only for her own well being but also for that her two kids.
