The Azimio coalition is yet to settle following frequent wrangles by some of its party members, especially when it comes to the leadership of both houses of parliament. The coalition has constantly accused Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance of trying to infringe on the rights of the opposition.
The national assembly minority side led by their leader, Opiyo Wandayi, wrote to the speaker informing him of a decision to remove Sabina Chege from her position as the deputy minority whip.
On Wednesday, May 3rd, speaker Moses Wetangula confirmed to the members that he was in receipt of Azimio’s letter, informing him of their decision. Wetangula noted that he would not allow the office of the speaker to be drawn to petty party politics.
However, the speaker confirmed to the house that the ruling on the matter was on its final stages and he would make a ruling on the same, on Thursday, May 4th.
This means that on Thursday, the former Murang’a woman representative will know her fate, whether to continue serving as the deputy minority whip or she will be de-whipped. The minority side has however not disclosed who will replace Chege in case speaker Wetangula upholds the decision to de-whip her.
