The decision of the Azimio Members of Parliament to remove Nominated MP Sabina Chege from her position as Deputy Minority Whip has been backed by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.
Speaker Wetangula affirmed her removal from the parliamentary position in a decision on October 25.
Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje has taken over for Chege.
The Jubilee MPs angrily challenged the Azimio La Umoja’s decision to remove Chege as their Minority Deputy Whip, which was communicated by Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi in a letter to Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Kenya Kwanza and Jubilee MPs supported Sabina Chege, and parliamentarians connected to Azimio, including ODM and Wiper lawmakers, urged the Speaker to accept her dismissal after speaking with Opiyo Wandayi, the minority leader.
Wetangula had made it clear that the proposal to have the Nominated MP removed from his position as Deputy Minority Whip would be reasonable and grounded in the rule of law.
The Azimio Coalition charged that the Nominated MP had frequently acted against the official party line and had ties to Kenya Kwanza.
