Jubilee Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has dismissed threats issued on Thursday by the party’s Vice Chairperson David Murathe, a day after a ruling by the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.
Speaking when the Jubilee party held celebrations to mark former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 62nd birthday, Murathe said the party would denominate Chege from the National Assembly and MP Kanini Kega from EALA for going against the party.
“…Once we are properly in office after the issue on leadership has been solved by the court, the first agenda will be to denominate Sabina Chege and Kanini Kega. Kega got the EALA seat because of Jubilee,” said Murathe.
This remarks came after Wetangula ruled that the Jubilee party will now be recognized as a Parliamentary Party, and Chege would be the Whip, with Chege being replaced with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
In a rejoinder, Chege said she is not intimidated by the threats to oust her from the party, and ultimately from parliament.
“I have seen all the headlines about me yet I am in a team of many. Do not think just because Sabina is a nominated member I can be an easy target. I have an army with me, only that most have gone to their constituencies because it is a weekend, and we thought we should not keep quiet.”
“This is not my fight, it is about Jubilee. We want to work for Kenyans, and we are happy that the speaker has made his ruling, now Jubilee can be able to make decisions.”
“I want to encourage the Jubilee MPs, even those who have not been showing interests fearing they would be removed from committees, now we are in charge,” said Chege.
MPs Adan Keynan and John Waluke welcomed Wetangula’s ruling, saying they had been mistreated in Azimio for a long time.
