President William Ruto has announced that his administration has secured over 270,000 job opportunities for Kenyans abroad since taking office. These positions span various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and construction, and are part of bilateral labor agreements with countries such as Germany and Canada. The President emphasized that these opportunities are open to all qualified Kenyans, regardless of the nature of the work, be it masonry or digital jobs.
In a recent address, President Ruto highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding employment prospects for Kenyan youth. He noted that agreements have been finalized with seven countries, with negotiations underway with 13 more. The goal is to connect up to two million Kenyans with jobs abroad once all agreements are in place. To facilitate this process, the government has streamlined passport processing and is covering travel expenses for those securing employment overseas.
One notable success is the partnership with Germany, where Kenyan bus drivers have been recruited to address labor shortages in the German public transport sector. This initiative not only provides employment for Kenyans but also strengthens bilateral relations between the two nations. The government continues to explore similar opportunities to ensure that more Kenyans can access gainful employment abroad, thereby contributing to economic growth through remittances and skill development.
