President William Ruto’s administration has suspended the distribution of subsidized fertilizer program following fake fertilizer saga.

In a report published by Kenyans.co.ke, it was announced during a meeting chaired by Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and attended by all principal secretaries, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, that the program would be suspended pending the investigation of allegation of fake fertilizer.

National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) was thus directed to suspend distribution until further notice.

Recently, DCI agents seized 700 bags of suspected fake fertilizer in Kakamega and nabbed a consignment of 560 bags in Baringo.

National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi called for the resignation of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and his Trade counterpart Rebecca Miano if they won’t resign over the circulation of fake fertilizer.

In a statement on Friday, Wandayi accused the CSs of perpetuating economic sabotage by allowing repeated instances of fake fertilizers and seed scandals.

Wandayi urged President William Ruto to move quickly and ensure the CSs and responsible procurement officers bear “full responsibility” for their actions.

However, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi rubbished claims of fake subsidised fertiliser, noting that the product undergoes scientific examinations and approvals before circulation to Kenyan farmers.
