The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. During his speech at the event, Ruto was reportedly heckled by sections of the crowd, sparking further speculation about his dwindling support in the Mount Kenya region.
Kirwa suggested that Ruto’s attendance was likely an attempt to gauge his popularity in the region or counter growing perceptions that he is losing the support of the Mount Kenya electorate. This political maneuver comes amid heightened tensions within Ruto’s camp, following Gachagua’s impeachment and replacement as Deputy President by Kindiki after a fallout with the president.
