President William Ruto’s administration through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has now issued a statement regarding the arrest and conviction of Kenyan civilians by Ugandan soldiers.

In the statement signed by Dr Alfred Mutua, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora affirms on Thursday, August 24, the two administrations (Uganda and Kenya) have been in touch over the arrest of 8 Turkana locals who were arrested in Kotido over suspicion og killing three Ugandan Geologists and two Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers.

The accused were later sentenced to 20 years in jail terms each. After interventions from the Kenyan government to have the accused pardoned, President Museveni called for the extradition of the killers of the geologists and soldiers before any amnesty discussion os tabled.

President Museveni also wants Kenya to make reparations to the families of the deceased before the amnesty discussions.

To protect the strong bilateral relationship between Kenya and the Republic of Uganda, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr Alfred Mutua and his Ugandan counterpart have now set a physical meeting to find solutions to the matter.
