Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairperson Anthony Muchiri has announced a job advertisement for Principal Secretary positions, following reassignments within senior ranks of the Executive. The advertisement, with a December 4, 2024, deadline for applications, has sparked speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto.
Reports suggest Ruto may reorganize his government to align with emerging political realities, amid pressure from various parties, including ODM. ODM’s role in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who had fallen out with Ruto, is believed to have strengthened its bargaining power. Gachagua’s impeachment reportedly relied on ODM’s numbers in both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Insiders hint that up to 15 Principal Secretaries could lose their positions in the impending reshuffle. This could pave the way for individuals allied to former opposition leader Raila Odinga to enter government roles.
Once applications close, the PSC will shortlist candidates and conduct interviews before forwarding names to the president for final nominations.
