In a swift response to mounting public concern over the new university funding model, His Excellency President William Ruto has taken decisive action. According to a gazette notice posted by the State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed, President Ruto has appointed a National Committee to review the controversial university funding system, marking an important step towards addressing widespread dissatisfaction with the current framework.

The newly formed committee will be tasked with reviewing the university funding model that has sparked debate across the country. Leading the review is Japheth Micheni, who has been appointed as the chairperson of the task force. Micheni who is a professor and an experienced leader in public administration will spearhead efforts to assess and propose adjustments to the model, ensuring that it is fair and sustainable for both students and educational institutions.

The creation of this task force comes after public uproar and criticism of the new funding scheme, which many have argued places an undue burden on students and their families. In an effort to address these concerns, President Ruto has not only appointed Micheni as the chairperson but has also included several other members from various sectors in the task force. These members bring with them a range of expertise, ensuring that the review process will be comprehensive and inclusive.

The President’s move demonstrates his commitment to listening to the concerns of the public and working towards solutions that benefit all Kenyans. By appointing this committee, he is taking proactive steps to address the issues surrounding university education funding and to find a more equitable approach.

As the task force begins its work, all eyes will be on the outcome of their review and the recommendations they put forward. This latest development underscores President Ruto’s leadership in addressing key national concerns swiftly and effectively.
