In a momentous announcement that brought immense relief to parents across the nation, President William Ruto assured families that the burden of high school fees would not grow heavier. Speaking at Kikuyu Township Primary School in Kiambu County, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, in the presence of the Head of State, confirmed that President Ruto had approved the decision to maintain the current high school fees.
The Education Cabinet Secretary reassured the candidates preparing for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) that they would secure slots in high schools without the worry of increased fees. He disclosed that the annual school fees for students entering national and extra-county schools would remain at Ksh53,000, while those admitted to county schools would be required to pay Ksh45,000.
“I have confirmed that exams have gone to all schools, and Your Excellency, I would like to assure Kenyans that your government is not increasing the fees when they go to Form 1. All the candidates are going to be placed in Form 1,” he affirmed, alleviating concerns about accessibility and affordability.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted that a staggering 1,415,315 pupils had registered to sit for the national exams, marking the final administration of the KCPE examinations since their inception in 1985. This pivotal decision not only eases the financial burden on parents but also ensures that education remains an accessible and inclusive opportunity for all aspiring students.
President Ruto’s commitment to keeping high school fees unchanged reflects the government’s dedication to fostering an environment where education is a right, not a privilege. This announcement marks a significant stride towards creating a brighter future for the youth of Kenya, emphasizing the importance of education in the nation’s progress and development.
