According to the reports from the People Daily, there is ongoing attempts to make amends between President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachua. This follows a team meeting of elders from the Kikuyu and Kalenjin leaders over the weekend in an attempt to reconcile the two.
The People Daily says that Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei was present in the team’s meeting with Gachagua in Eldoret, prior to their anticipated meeting with Ruto.
The council of elders has already contacted Ruto, according to people with knowledge of the two parties’ ongoing dispute, and they are awaiting word from State House on when to schedule a meeting with him before calling a joint gathering of the two formerly friendly but now bitter enemies.
Given the friendly relationship he shares with both the President and Gachagua, it is understood that a senator from the Mount Kenya region has been serving as their go-between and has been making every effort to bring them together.
“We are waiting for the President to give the team an appointment date, before we can move forward. The first thing we will do is to meet him on his own so that we can hear his side of the story,” said a source who did not want to be named.
One of Gachakua’s steadfast allies, Embakasi North MP James Mwangi Gakuya, confirmed the efforts to close the growing distance between the two yesterday.
“Elders from the two communities have been meeting various stakeholders with a view to reconciling them. They have al- ready had a meeting with the DP and are scheduled to meet the President,” Gakuya told the People Daily.
Speaking over the weekend, Gachagua asserted that leaders from the Mount Kenya region were being incited to oppose him politically by a small number of lawmakers from the Rift Valley region, marking his first public admission that things are not right in the ruling party.
Gachagua advised those against him to show respect for him and let the people of Mount Kenya handle their own politics, even though he did not publicly acknowledge that attempts were being made to bring him and his boss back together.
