Rufus

Rufus is a businessman whose life changed after a painful legal and personal battle that left him with nothing. A few years ago, one of Rufus’ lorries was involved in a tragic road accident that caused the death of an elderly man.

The matter was reported to the police, taken to court, and the driver was found guilty. Rufus and his family believed the case was fully settled and put behind them.

Life moved on until Rufus’ longtime friend, Kamoni, returned from Congo. Kamoni had travelled there in search of gold but faced many struggles.

Disappointed and broken, he came back to Kenya and ran to Rufus for help. Rufus welcomed him with open arms and supported him for several years until Kamoni was back on his feet.

As Rufus’ transport business grew, Kamoni quietly watched. Unknown to Rufus, his trusted friend was allegedly planning his downfall.

One morning, Rufus was shocked to receive a court decree ordering him to pay KSh 2.5 million to Kamoni’s family, plus KSh 700,000 in legal fees to his lawyer.

The claim was linked to the old accident case, which Rufus thought had long been resolved.

After consulting his family, Rufus took a loan using their land as collateral.

He paid his lawyer the KSh 700,000 and gave Kamoni KSh 1 million. They agreed Rufus would clear the remaining balance slowly as he continued working.

However, trouble followed quickly. Rufus was served with court orders allowing the seizure of his two lorries, valued at about KSh 8 million, for allegedly defaulting on the agreement.

With no vehicles, his income stopped completely. Soon after, he was informed that one of the lorries had already been sold.

Hoping for fairness, Rufus went to Chado Auctioneers in Thika. He believed that since the lorry was worth more than the debt, he would receive the balance and get back the second lorry.

Instead, he was told both lorries had been sold and that he should “be patient.”

When Rufus questioned Kamoni, his friend claimed he had no control over the auctioneers.

After receiving payment, Kamoni reportedly returned to Congo to chase his gold dreams again.

Left with no money, no lorries, and no answers, Rufus and his family confronted the auctioneers in dramatic scenes witnessed recently.
