Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Robert Alai, has expressed his discontent on his X handle over the reappointment of Mary Kimonye to a senior government position. Alai questioned the continued dominance of individuals who served during former presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta’s administrations, describing it as a troubling trend in Kenya’s leadership.

In his remarks, Alai pointed out that Mary Kimonye’s reentry into government leadership signifies a continuation of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s influence. He highlighted the pattern of power retention by individuals associated with previous regimes, stating, “Kibaki 10 years, Uhuru 10 years, and now Uhuru continues.” This comment reflects his frustration with the lack of fresh faces in key government roles, even under the administration of President William Ruto, who had campaigned on a promise of change.

Alai’s criticism follows President Ruto’s nomination of the Vice Chairperson and Members of the Public Service Commission (PSC), as announced by government communication strategist Hussein Mohamed. Mohamed revealed that the nominations have been submitted to Parliament for consideration. However, Alai appears to see these appointments as part of a broader issue of recycling leaders who have already served in past administrations.

Mary Kimonye, known for her extensive experience in public service, is among the individuals whose reappointment has sparked debate. Critics like Alai argue that such appointments prevent new leaders from emerging, potentially stalling efforts to bring fresh perspectives into governance.

The nomination process for the PSC members is expected to go through parliamentary scrutiny. While supporters of the nominees emphasize their qualifications and experience, critics like Alai continue to call for a more inclusive and diverse leadership approach.

Alai’s lamentation underscores the ongoing struggle between continuity and change in Kenya’s political landscape. His statements resonate with those who feel that leadership opportunities should be expanded to include younger and previously unrepresented individuals, ensuring a balanced.
