Murang’a University fraternity is in mourning after two students died on the same day following collapse of a building in Murang’a town on Monday June 19, 2023.

According to an emotional announcement by the office of the dean of students today, the students are Nkulet Duncan who was a third year pursuing a Bachelor of procurement and supplies management.

The other late student is Emmanuel Asante who was pursuing a Bachelor of Technology education specializing in civil engineering.

Reports online indicate that Emmanuel Asande, died a few minutes after he was rushed to Murang’a Level-5 Hospital with critical injuries. He was allegedly on attachment at the building and had worked for the last two weeks.

A medical report indicated that he suffered serious injuries on his spinal cord.

Daniel Nkulet on the other hand was working as a casual construction worker. He had sadly deffered his studies for one semester and had worked at the building for four weeks.

Vice Chancellor of the Murang’a University of Technology, Professor Dickson Nyariki mourned the two as young hardworking people who had bright futures.

Murang’a University Students Organization (MUSO) president Davis Kemboi revealed that preparations are going on to hold a memorial to mourn the two students. He said that as students, they were emotionally affected by the deaths. He also sent condolences to family members of the two.

The building collapse also claimed the life of a Moi University student identified as Geoffrey Wachira who was also working at the site as a casual labourer. Wachira was a third year pursuing Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.
